Volunteer Opportunities for Teens
at Jewish Family Service
Shabbat Box Program. Decorating boxes and filling them with Shabbat prayers, JFS brochures, donated grape juice and mints. Completed boxes are returned to JFS; challah rolls donated by Three Brothers Bakery are added and adult Chaplaincy volunteers deliver them to the hospitals every Friday for Jewish patients. Requirement: 3-month commitment.
"Nosh" Bags. Small bags are decorated, filled with donated kosher nuts, crackers, granola bars, pretzels, tea bag, etc., for patients in the waiting rooms of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The products are donated by the Maurice Amado Foundation. Requirement: At least 12 per week.
Adopt-a-Holiday. Holiday gifts for Jewish patients: Purim (mishloach manot bags), Passover (traditional Passover foods), Shavuot (dairy food with a creative insert explaining
          why we eat only dairy). Requirement: At least 40 gifts
             per holiday.
For Home-bound Senior Adults.

Collections of items for bags to be delivered by members of the Senior Adult Department.

Non-food items. Items not covered by food stamps, e.g., soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes, toilet paper, paper towels.
Holiday food drives. Passover, Purim, Thanksgiving, and Chanukah
Canned food drives. Conducted year-round for senior adults.
Paper goods drives. Paper plates, napkins, paper towels, facial tissues, toilet paper, paper cups, plastic eating utensils.
Hurricane kits. Flashlights, batteries, canned goods, can opener, bottled water, other items necessary for at least three days. [a summer project]
