But when a child becomes a teenager, there can be a whole new world of problems. Between the ages of 12 and 18, everything changes. It's a time when social, peer, academic and parental pressures combine with emotional and biological changes. The results can be both exhilarating and overwhelming.
There are warning signs that may indicate a need for professional help.
Reasons for parents to call JFS may include:
- ADD or ADHD
- anger
- anxiety
- attachment issues
- bullying
- child psychological abuse
- depression
- maltreatment/child sexual abuse
- neglect
- persistent personality disturbance
- oppositional behaviors
- stress
- suicidal ideation
- any behaviors that cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning
The Process
Parents see these disturbing signs and do not know what to do. However, there is someone you can turn to. Our professional counselors are among the best in their field. They work with children and teens every day, helping them with issues such as family power struggles, depression, body image issues, anger management, behavior problems, and self-esteem issues. Jewish Family Service provides a safe and confidential place for the adolescent to talk about whatever is on their minds.
